Around Town - Abetifi

A traffic accident involving two semi's on the road to Abetifi. Both have rolled and spilled all
of their contents.

The main road that travels through Abetifi. Abetifi is the highest habitable point in all of Ghana. We walk
down this road everyday to practice our Twi with anyone we meet.

Just an example of the garbage that is everywhere. On both sides of the road there is a
gutter that is about 3 feet deep and 2 feet wide, full of sewage and garbage. Let's just say you wouldn't want to fall in!

Another look at Abetifi. Not too exciting right now, but more will come later!

This is a group of people whom we met while practicing our Twi. The older folks are so excited to hear us
speak their language, and very eager to help us learn more!

Sherri, (my roommate) being herself as we walk down the road to find more people to greet!

A common scene in Africa- women walking down the street with items to sell on their heads. This particular
girl is selling fish.

This group of women all work in a salon in Abetifi, and I think we bring some entertainment to their work day when
we come to try out our Twi!

This is Juliana, a three month old girl whom we met on our walk one day. Usually her father is holding her, and
now when we walk by he just hands her over to us, and we return her when we are done!

Just a few of the women we met on one of our walks through town.

Some children were out practicing their brigade, most of them without shoes.

These are my new friends from the Netherlands- Maggie, Piscal and Deuwjke, along with Sherri.
They are here in Ghana for 5 months doing an internship for their University working in the schools here.
They are also learning Twi and living next door to us. We eat every meal together, so we have
gotten to know them pretty well.

We tend to have a good time together. Lately after supper we have been playing a few games. This
particular night we played dice, and once again Sherri kept us all laughing!
