MIDP- Acacia Project

Let me introduce you to a wonderful new product being grown here in Niger-- the Australian Acacia tree. Acacia trees grow very well in this climate and soil, and the results are beneficial
not only for the land, but for protien and income also!

Two soil scientists, Peter and Sally Cunningham from Australia, have totally
transformed this SIM farm out in Maradi. Back in the 60's and 70's this farm was
used for training and developing farmers through the church, including a Bible School.

It was a success at the time, but the missionaries then were using machinery that were
and are not available for the average Nigerian farmer.
Things are different now. The Cunnnghams have been farming along side the Nigerians
using only what the typical Nigerian farmer has.

And it is working.
They have also discovered how successful the Acacia trees grow here in Niger.

They developed a nursury on the SIM farm, and also in area bush villages which
are participating in this project.

The trees and season have reached its peak time for planting.
They are loading up the truck to plant 300 new Acacia trees.

Peter has been training his workers along the way.
