Danja Hospital-Leprosarium
JUBILEE CELEBRATION!

Gordon Evan, SIM Niger Director, speaks to the crowd of 200 that has gathered to celebrate
the 50 years that Danja Hospital has served in Danja, Niger.
It was a very big event, with two important people attending the opening ceremony. On the left is the Chief of Maradi, in the center is the Governor of Maradi, and on the right is Gordon Evans, SIM Niger director.
Both the Chief and the Governor comes with their own
entourage,
almost like it is a competition between the two. Here the Chief sits with one of his
helpers fanning him.
No, I am not kidding!

The Chief of Maradi visits with Mr. Steven Lucas, from Voice of America, whose father started Danja Hospital 50 years ago. Mr. Lucas speaks the Hausa language, and is really the
radio voice for the Nigerian people. When he speaks, they all recognize his voice.
The Maradi Chief shakes the hand of the former Danja Hospital Director, Virginia. Virginia served with SIM at the Hospital for over 30 years.

It is a very big deal wherever this Chief goes, including even getting into his vehicle!
Notice one of his men spreading his arms, creating a blockade as the Chief climbs in.
