An Unforgettable Adventure
As we kept hiking along through the flooded water, it continued to get deeper and deeper- to where I had to hand one of my backpacks off to someone else to carry my camera equipment on my head. Before we know it, our leader is up to his shoulders in water! That is when we all looked at each other and said we can't go any farther.
With us on this trip was one of the ECUL church leaders, the partner church of SIM. At this point in the hike he turns to Joseph Kejr and says, "I just don't know what to do at this point. The Lord hasn't told me what to do yet." To that Joseph replied, "He hasn't told you yet???"
Two seconds later the leader turns around, takes a step and falls completely under the water, grabbing me for stabilization. I help pull him up and the first thing out of his mouth is, "THE LORD HAS SPOKEN!"
So here we were, 15 of us, in the forest in Liberia, at 11:30 at night, chest deep in water, looking at each other and laughing. At that point if we didn't laugh I think it would have made the whole trip just miserable! One of the funniest things for me was watching the men (for some reason the women didn't have this problem). But for some reason the men would take a step and find themselves under water- it made it way to funny for us as we were making our way through the water.
Although we were very disappointed that we were not going to make it to our final destination, we knew that we had to turn around.

We made it back safely to the closest village and all sat down dejected in a little hut there.
The villagers offered us a place to stay, the men sleeping in this shelter, and the women in a bedroom in the village. As we finally laid down around 1-1:30, us women just couldn't stop laughing thinking about all the men falling in the water! It was too funny!
Since we were not able to do any Bible teaching in the village we intended to go to, we did have morning devotions at the village we stayed at.
The villagers were incredibly attentive to Ray and what he had to say!
It wasn't in our plan to teach here, but you never know how God is going to use
this unplanned teaching in this Muslim village!

Well, its time to make our way back to the vehicle and head home. Notice the generator he is carrying on his head- full of gas and heavy, yet carried the whole time the night before!
I had to take a picture of the first two logs we took forever to cross the night before, too afraid we would have to walk in wet shoes!
